The Friends of Frelinghuysen Arboretum are proud to host dozens of events in the coming weeks, ranging from exhibits to photo classes to tours to informative programs on gardens and horticulture.

JOB OPENING

The Friends have funded a part time seasonal position within the Morris County Park Commission here at The Frelinghuysen Arboretum.

Title: Cutting Garden Gardener
Hours: 8 hours a week from May – September, $12.50 per hour, days and times are flexible
Responsibilities: watering, weeding, deadheading, pruning feeding
Qualifications: Knowledge of the care of perennials and annuals in our Cutting Garden, which is not open to the public and is located near the Frelinghuysen’s Maintenance Shop

PLANT SEEKS NEW HOME

This 4’ tall cactus (click on image to enlarge) is looking for a new home.

Make a Culinary Herb Jar

Even those with limited space to grow can enjoy fresh herbs. Grow them in a strawberry jar that can be placed on a sunny porch, a deck or even a fire escape!

  • The Great Swap Bonsai Society invites all interested individuals to their Tuesday, April 29 meeting to hear guest lecturer, bonsai artist, Suthin.
  • Are you interested in learning how to grow chrysanthemums? Who better to learn from than the New Jersey State Chrysanthemum Society at their MUM School on Saturday, May 10. Here you will learn how to grow healthy, prolific garden mums and how to grow those big “football” exhibit mums too. Each attendee receives 3 (garden) mum rooted cuttings and 3 large disbud bloom type cuttings, plus soil and pots for your new plants. All for $15. Call Doris Zucher at 973-361-4323 to sign up. Matilda's Cafe is open from 10am on serving fresh coffee and a fine selection of pastries. Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays through October.

2014 Plant Sale

Here is a somewhat longer range welcome to Spring: The Friends 19th Annual Plant Sale is coming up the first weekend of May! Put big red stars on your calendar for the Members-Only Sale Friday, May 2nd, and the Main Event Saturday and Sunday, May 3rd & 4th.

We have added lots of plants to our On-Line Plant List so take a look and start your wish list. Also, there are several new articles on our Plant Sale Page where you can the whole scoop on this year's Plant Sale.
