September Coming Attractions

Labor Day is right around the corner, followed by a full calendar of events at the Arboretum (click on the headlines, below, for more information about these programs).

Bus Trip: Morris Arboretum of the University of Pennsylvania

Featuring docent-led tours of the extensive gardens plus a catered lunch, you have only a few more days to sign up for this great trip scheduled for Sunday, September 13th.

Tomato Day

Sunday, September 13 is also our Tomato Day. Working with Rutger’s Snyder Farm provides us with many different varieties of tomatoes to taste. There will be cooking and preserving demonstrations and a tomato walk with Morris County Ag Agent and tomato expert Pete Nietzsche.

Plantsmen

Have you met our Plantsmen, Pat Rolston and Scott Scarafile?

Both Pat and Scott are die-hard gardeners who love to share their enthusiasm for plants!

Pat has narrated a new cell phone tour on the Cottage Garden that is filled with facts and her special insights. Come see the Cottage Garden at its peak and hear Pat talk about her work there.

Scott will be hosting a sunset tour of the Frelinghuysen on Friday, September 18 at 7 p.m. Join Scott to hear about his gardens and learn how to grow those plants successfully.

Herbal Vinegar Workshop

The herbs in the Scherer garden are soaking up the heat and sun and will be harvested for the Herbal Vinegar Workshop on Tuesday, September 22. Many members have requested evening classes and there is still space in the 7pm class. You will not be disappointed with the trip of herbal vinegars that you will go home with.

Calling Advanced Flower Arrangers

Our cutting Garden is a bloomin’ and floral designer Marge Hulstrunk has special plans for her Advanced Flower Arrangers. Register now for the three part class – only $60 for all 3 (and that’s a lot of flowers!). Class start September 9th, so make your reservations soon!

 

Arboretum Leaves

The next issue of The Arboretum Leaves will be in the mail next week and it is full of articles and Fall events, many of which we will highlight here in the coming weeks. We look forward to seeing all of you in the coming weeks.
