Fall has officially arrived
...and with it two wonderful shows that are Free and Open to the Public:
- The Fungus Fest is this Sunday, from 1-4pm. Enjoy a dazzling display of mushrooms, and some fascinating talks and walks.
- On Saturday and Sunday, 10/13 and 10/14 it’s the Chrysanthemum Show. Speak with knowledgeable hobbyists and buy one of the club's lovely small arrangements.

October brings an array of seasonal programs including these classes on garlic:
Garden Sprouts
Our Children’s Sprouts classes meet on Mondays at 11 and feature seasonal themes throughout the month including apples, pumpkins and the falling leaves.
Magic Boxes
Interested in extending your vegetable growing season? Register for Magic Boxes on Wednesday 10/17.
Bring the Butterflies to You
Enjoy a talk and then a walk on butterflies on Sunday 10/7 with our friends from the North American Butterfly Association – Free and Open to the Public but you have to register.
Berried Treasure: Spectacular Fruit for the Garden
On Saturday 10/20 it’s Berried Treasure with staff from Broken Arrow Nursery in Hamden CT and, yes, they are bringing plants for sale!
Why don’t you bring along a sandwich and stay for the Friends Trip to Ireland Preview talk (more info, below). It’s a great chance to learn about travelling with the Friends.
Teen Cooking: Halloween Treats
Got a teen? Sign them up for Teen Cooking: Halloween Treats on Sunday 10/21. Their hands will be busy with something other than buttons, at least for a little while. ....
Paint It Black
We close out the month on Sunday 10/28 with Paint it Black, an illustrated talk on black plants, including groundcovers, vines, annuals and perennials. Who can resist these drama queens?

The Friends Are Going to Ireland in 2013
And you are invited to join in on a wonderful tour of Irish gardens. Join us on Saturday October 20 for the Friends Trip to Ireland Preview where veteran traveler Sue Acheson will describe the tour and the all the details like itinerary, cost, accomodations, etc. The Preview is free, but we ask that you register in advance.
