IN PERSON in the Haggerty Education Center at The Frelinghuysen Arboretum
At long last the Friends will be gathering in person to enjoy a buffet lunch together and hear from Kathleen Gagan on how to incorporate peonies in your garden design. This will be a special event after several years without in person programs, and Kathleen is the perfect person to kick things off!
This local resident is the founder and owner of Peony's Envy Nursery in Bernardsville, New Jersey. Kathleen has made a national name for herself as a peony diva and has appeared on the Martha Stewart Living Show, among many other venues. Her pictorial lecture will show you how to design with peonies (which are deer resistant), with an in-depth look at peony cultivar selection, siting, planting and care. Why talk about peonies now? Because fall is a good time to plant them! Kathleen will bring a selection of bare-root peonies for sale after the program.
The catered lunch will feature a delicious selection of salads, breads, fruit and yummy desserts plus some sparkling beverages. We hope you can join us for this festive event!
This program is eligible for 1.0 Rutgers Master Gardener CEU.
Please note that registration for this program will close at 12:00 Noon on Wednesday, October 19

VIRTUAL ZOOM PROGRAM
A garden water feature can be anything from a birdbath to a large Versailles-type installation with sculptures and fountains. Whatever the size or type you choose, it will dramatically alter your landscape, broaden the palette of plants you can cultivate and enhance your garden for wildlife. Dr. Grimwade will consider the ideal site for a pond, styles of construction, equipment, plants and maintenance. Regardless of the style and size of your garden, there is a water feature for you!
Alexander (Sandy) Grimwade has been an avid, life-long gardener in Britain, the Netherlands and the United States, and currently serves as webmaster for the Delaware Valley Water Garden Society (DVWGS). He has constructed his own backyard pond and advised DVWGS members and many others on construction and management of their water features. Sandy is a Penn State Master Gardener and a volunteer guide and plant advisor at Pennsylvania Horticultural Society events.
This program is eligible for 1.0 Rutgers Master Gardener CEU.

TODAY AT THE FRELINGHUYSEN ARBORETUM
The beds in front of the Haggerty Education Center have filled in nicely: the waves of red Coleus and orange Marigolds against the dark green hedge and the Blue Spruce in the background, make for a striking sight. The pink flower clusters of Sedum telephium cv. Neon (Showy Stonecrop) are lovely and bees are all over the flowers of Caryopteris x clandonensis (Blue Mist Shrub).
