OUR APOLOGIES
As previously noted here, we had hoped to have a Friends of The Frelinghuysen Arboretum tree at the Festival of Trees exhibit in the Mansion this year. The tree was to be decorated with Gingerbread ornaments created, baked and submitted by Members of the Friends as well as by members of the general public.
Unfortunately, we have been advised that due to unforeseen changes in Morris County Park Commission's rules, we will not be permitted to do so. Our apologies to all for any inconvenience this may have caused.
A FEW TICKETS LEFT FOR "DESIGNING WITH PEONIES"
DON'T MISS OUT, SIGN UP NOW!!!
Saturday, October 22 - 12:00 Noon
IN PERSON in the Haggerty Education Center at The Frelinghuysen Arboretum
At long last the Friends will be gathering in person to enjoy a buffet lunch together and hear from Kathleen Gagan on how to incorporate peonies in your garden design. This will be a special event after several years without in person programs, and Kathleen is the perfect person to kick things off!
This local resident is the founder and owner of Peony's Envy Nursery in Bernardsville, New Jersey. Kathleen has made a national name for herself as a peony diva and has appeared on the Martha Stewart Living Show, among many other venues. Her pictorial lecture will show you how to design with peonies (which are deer resistant), with an in-depth look at peony cultivar selection, siting, planting and care. Why talk about peonies now? Because fall is a good time to plant them! Kathleen will bring a selection of bare-root peonies for sale after the program.
The catered lunch will feature a delicious selection of salads, breads, fruit and yummy desserts plus some sparkling beverages. We hope you can join us for this festive event!
This program is eligible for 1.0 Rutgers Master Gardener CEU.
Please note that registration for this program will close at 12:00 Noon on Wednesday, October 19
Thursday, October 27 - 7:00 PM

TODAY AT THE FRELINGHUYSEN ARBORETUM
Another gorgeous, sunny, fall day with clear blue skies and temperatures in the low 70s. Trees and shrubs are starting to show their lovely autumn colors. The young Acer saccharum (Sugar Maple) in front of the mansion is resplendent in orange and gold leaves; the restored meadow behind the mansion is all muted colors, with whole swaths of blooming Monarda punctata (Spotted Bee Balm), a pollinator friendly native; The leaves on a Hamamelis x intermedia 'Diane' (Hybrid Witch Hazel cultivar) are turning a beautiful, brilliant orange. Fall is fleeting, so be sure to visit soon.
