THE BENJAMIN BLACKBURN SCHOLARSHIP LECTURE

Speaker: Photographer, Rob Cardillo

Saturday, February 8 - 1:00 PM (Snow Date: Sunday, February 9)

In person at The Frelinghuysen Arboretum

THERE IS STILL TIME TO SUPPORT THIS WORTHY PROGRAM, PLEASE SIGN UP TODAY

Even if you can't attend, please consider purchasing a ticket to support this program. Your generosity will help the Friends' mission to provide a scholarship to Landscape Technology Program students at County College of Morris, like Dave DePodwin (featured in last week's eblast), who work diligently to see that good landscape practices become the norm in our towns. We all benefit from such tireless dedication to the craft of garden design.

If you can attend, you will enjoy a presentation by well-known professional garden photographer Rob Cardillo. Rob will illustrate how he crafts sweeping landscapes and compelling plant closeups through a series of engaging stories. Using examples from his many books and magazine projects, he will show how he doesn't always get it right the first time and how perseverance and patience pay off in the end. You'll leave with new ideas and new techniques to help you find and translate your own vision of Eden, even if you only use an iPhone!

The presentation will be followed by a book sale and signing.

Light refreshments will be served.

Please click on the photo of Mr Cardillo for more information and to register.

HOME GARDEN CLUB OF MORRISTOWN PROGRAM

Integrating Olmsted's Additional Plans into Biltmore Gardens with Horticulturist, Bill Quade

Wednesday, February 19 - 1:00 PM -- Morris County Library

The Home Garden Club of Morristown is sponsoring a free, one hour lecture entitled "Integrating Olmsted's Additional Plants into Biltmore Gardens" at the Morris County Library.

Bill Quade, horticulturist, will intersperse his talk with pictures about their efforts to provide seasonal displays for guests and the evolution of the estate's walled garden plantings. In addition, he will address the devastation the Biltmore gardens sustained by Hurricane Helene in 2024 and their restoration efforts.

If you would like to attend this lecture, please email slevenbach.sl@gmail.com and give your name and indicate that you heard about the lecture via the Friends' eblast so that we can set up enough chairs and track our marketing efforts.

AT THE FRELINGHUYSEN ARBORETUM

Just a few winter images taken at the Arboretum last week. The gorgeous exfoliating bark of Acer griseum (Paperbark Maple) at the entrance to the Haggerty Education Center; there used to be two of them, sadly the one on the left suffered damage during a storm and had to be removed. The fuzzy buds of the Magnolia x 'Butterflies' (Hybrid Magnolia) photographed against a bright blue sky. Last but not least, the Barkman Vegetable Garden sleeping under a blanket of snow. In case you're wondering, that's the Ficus carica (Fig Tree) all wrapped up in burlap as protection against the winter chill.
