Announcements as of January 26, 2016

Plant Dividends Selected

We’ve selected this year’s Plant Dividends – so, stay tuned for the details on the upcoming 2016 Plant Sale page. Here’s a preview though – lilies for the sun and Astilbe for the shade.

One of the lilies is “After Eight,” a miniature oriental. Diminutive, fragrant, and floriferous (more than 8 buds on the average) this tiny beauty will add elegance to your containers this summer.

Remember: Plant Dividends are a member benefit and another great reason to join The Friends of The Frelinghuysen Arboretum!

Blackburn Scholarship Lecture

Did you know that an Oak tree helped to win the Revolutionary War?

The USS Constitution, “Old Ironsides” was, in fact, made from an Oak. Its hard hull helped to repel British cannonballs!

Learn all about the Oak at the Blackburn Scholarship Lecture on Saturday February 13.

Community Garden Conference

You have until January 31 to register for the Community Garden Conference at the reduced fee.

We’re all looking forward to this day and the combined energy of 100+ vegetable gardeners who have cabin fever and long for dirt under their nails.

We have great seed giveaways too!

Register on line by clicking here.

Philadelphia Flower Show

Our bus trip to the Philadelphia Flower Show on Tuesday March 8 is perfectly timed. We leave at 10:00 to avoid the morning rush hour.

This year’s theme ”Explore America – 100 Years of the National Park Service,” should inspire some great floor exhibits.

Do a bit of green retail therapy at the show and have lunch in Chinatown or the Reading Terminal Market.
