Announcements as of April 4, 2018


Thursday, April 12

Grow strawberries, blueberries, blackberries and other small fruit in your own backyard.

Peter Nitzsche, the County Agent with Rutgers Cooperative Extension of Morris County will show you how. Learn which varieties grow best in our area, how to plant and maintain them and proper layout practices.

Participants will receive Rutgers Scarlet strawberry plants to plant at home.

Saturday, April 14

If you grow your own seedlings you won’t want to miss Frelinghuysen Arboretum Gardener Jeanne Lardino’s talk on transplanting.

Bring your seedlings if you have them or transplant some of ours so you’ll be ready to “grow your groceries”. Prepare to get your hands dirty as we transplant them into 4 inch pots.

Saturday, April 21

Chuck Hinkle, a member of the Pennsylvania Horticultural Society (PHS) Gold Medal Plant Committee, speaks about his favorite plants.

His talk focuses on the winners of this prestigious award, all of which you will want to plant in your own garden.

Ramp up your Gardening Know-How and Get Ready for Our Big Plant Sale in May!

The Friends’ mission is education and our big event to support all of our programs throughout the year is our big Plant Sale in the Tent during the first weekend in May, May 5 and 6. (Members Only shopping on May 4)

Throughout the month of April we’re offering a number of Gardening programs for free or a nominal fee to help you get your garden ready for spring (umm, when will that be?), and to help you plan for shopping at the sale, of course.
