Geum – Avens
G. Mai Tai
Everyone needs a few bright jewels to improve their garden mood.
Geums have charming ruffled flowers that come in a myriad of colors with hot yellow, orange and red blooms that emerge from a basel rosette of fuzzy leaves.
G. Tequilla Sunrise
We’ll have a few Geums from the Cocktail Series to quench your thirst for color: Alabama Slammer (orange-red semi-double), Mai Tai (ruffled semi-double apricot) and Tequila Sunrise, (large semi-double yellow flowers with grenadine edges and burgundy stems). Two other cheerful cultivars for sale are Geum Chiloense ‘Mrs. Bradshaw’, a dazzler with lipstick red blooms and Geum Chiloense Princess Juliana with fiery orange/yellow blooms.
Plant geums in sun with average moisture, well-drained soil and cut back blooms for repeat blooming. Blooming starts in late spring into summer. The blossoms attract butterflies, hummingbirds and deer tend to resist them.
