Wales Trip - Bob Hemsen - Day 10 Powis CastleOvernight stay in the Town of Welshpool. Just a quick peak at some of the buildings as it was raining heavily. Powis Castle a fortress that was later converted to a castle. Queen Victoria visited the castle in her early years. Towering shaped hedges. There is a passageway in the bottom left corner of the hedge (picture 7). It is hard to see given the size oof the bushes but that is where the path leads. Peacock in stone, peacock in full display (picture 8). |

Wales Trip - Bob Hemsen - Day 8 Laskett GardensLaskett Gardens has a self guided audio tour to accompany visitors. Short and to the point but so many rooms and areas to cover. A place you could spend hours visiting. A visit to the town of Hay-on Wye for lunch. Known as the Town of Books, a second hand bookshop location. Alas nearly every restaurant was closed as they were recovering form a big weekend festival. The Murder and Mayhem bookshop is one of many shops in the town.

Wales Trip - Bob Hemsen - Day 7 High Ganau GardensHigh Ganau Gardens. It poured while we were here and there was plant sale taking place on the grounds at the same time we visited. The owner had the house opened for tea and baked goods. We all crammed into a beautiful study for her to give us background then off we went. The gardens were conceived in 1922 by Henry Avary Tipping and overlook a valley. This was the warmest most comfortable, warmest and inviting home on the trip. Not badly situated either. Note the grape vine growing through the foundation, around a pipe and still producing grapes.
