Hips and HawsIt’s time for hips and haws – and the pair of Korean Mountain Ash, Sorbus alnifolia, right outside the Haggerty Education Center are ablaze with golden leaves and soft red berries. These lovely 4-season performers are also filled with birds enjoying their acerbic and astringent berries – like the robins in this photo – can you see them? In China, a jam is made from these berries, but we hesitate to recommend them for eating as there may be some counter indications. We do however, recommend them as a perfect small tree, topping out at about 20'. |
