However, early registration will guarantee you a seat and will help us plan.HERBALISM FOR YOUR HEALTH Sunday, July 28As we sip an herbal infusion, Shannon Mayernik will talk about how your backyard weeds can be turned into plant medicine that you and your family can enjoy year-round. As an herbalist, she utilizes what is around her home. She will bring in plants you may not be familiar with, but can almost promise you have growing in your neighborhood. You will be able to touch, smell and taste the plants as well as try a tincture or two of her homemade plant medicines. She will discuss the different techniques for making plant medicine. The open conversation will invite questions, so bring a notebook and pen and get ready to learn all about plant medicine. RENOVATING YOUR LAWN – TIPS FROM THE EXPERTS Saturday, August 3Jim Murphy, Rutgers Extension Specialist in Turfgrass Management, will explain the major grass species used for lawns in New Jersey as well as the range of adaptation for those grasses. The adaptation of a grass species dictates the niche within a property where each grass should be used for renovation. Sunday, August 11Learn how to increase your garden harvest by extending the growing season through the Fall and Winter. Over the past seven years, Matt Mayernik has been able to harvest kale, carrots, parsnips, beets, greens and other plants well into November and sometimes as late as December. Learn about the techniques he implemented and what plants he has found to be the most successful. The class will include a recommended schedule for seedling germination in the summer to prepare for the Fall. Matt will share his experience of how his homemade greenhouse changed his methodology and provide some insights on how hoop tunnels can be used to increase late season harvests. PROGRAM OF INTEREST: On Saturday, August 3 at 2:00 PM and 4:30 PM The Center for Contemporary Art in Bedminster will hold a screening of Michael Reynolds’ documentary “Under the Great Oak”, which celebrates the life of the great Oak tree that lived in Basking Ridge for over 600 years. The film illustrates the impact the tree had on the community through interviews and the Great Oak Art Celebration, which brought together artists and members of the community to honor the tree and its place in history.
