Announcements as of December 4, 2019We know people’s schedules are busy, so walk-ins to the speaker programs are welcome. However, early registration will guarantee you a seat and will help us plan.MEMBERS NIGHT AT GINGERBREAD WONDERLANDThursday, December 5 – 3:30 to 7:00 PMPlease don’t forget to register for this very special Members Only benefit, it’s a great way to kick off the holiday festivities! Visit the gingerbread exhibit ahead of the crowds and then go downstairs for seasonal refreshments and live keyboard music provided by Bach to Rock, a music school located in Denville, New Jersey. Come anytime between 3:30 and 7:30 PM. The event is FREE to Members, but registration is required. Register online by clicking here or call 862 325-7754. If you are not a Member of the Friends of The Frelinghuysen Arboretum, it is not too late to become a Family Member and register for this fun family evening. GINGERBREAD VOLUNTEERS NEEDED!As always, the success of the Gingerbread Wonderland depends on our wonderful volunteers. Our new volunteer signup system for 2019 is up and running now. NOTE TO CRAFT SHOW EXHIBITORSWe have had a great turnout of potential exhibitors this year. Our exhibitor list is full for this year's show as is our waiting list. We look forward to possibly working with you for next year's Gingerbread Wonderland Craft Show. BOTANICAL DRAWING FOR BEGINNERS WITH KATY LYNESS Four Saturdays: January 4, 11, 18 and 25Do you ever wish you could capture the details of a plant long after you’ve seen it? This introductory class teaches you how to make realistic drawings of plants using a variety of techniques. Learn to draw a selection of plant parts, including branches, stems, leaves and flowers, for pleasure or to expand your drawing skills. Artist Katy Lyness is a passionate home gardener and teaches botanical illustration at the New York Botanical Garden. She has been represented in international exhibitions and is active in the Tri-State Botanical Artist Group. She received her MA in Art Education from Columbia University Teacher’s College. BENJAMIN BLACKBURN SCHOLARSHIP LECTURERob Cardillo: The Art of Garden PhotographySaturday, February 1 – Snow Date: Sunday, February 2Since 1979, the Friends of The Frelinghuysen Arboretum have supported horticultural education through a scholarship named for Dr. Benjamin Blackburn, a professor of Botany at Drew University. Dr. Blackburn published many articles and wrote a number of books on gardening as well as being the host of a very popular radio program. Join professional garden photographer Rob Cardillo as he illustrates the crafting of sweeping landscapes and compelling plant close-ups through engaging instructive stories. From pre-visualizing to post–processing, Rob will provide you with new tools and new ideas to help you find and translate your own vision of Eden, even if you only use an iPhone. Admission fees support the scholarship that is offered to students in the Landscape Technology Program at County College of Morris. Light refreshments follow the talk. This program is eligible for 2.0 Rutgers Master Gardener CEU’s. Click on Rob Cardillo’s photo for more information and to register.
